Abstract

The Athens newspaper "Estia" reports the following issues on the US attitude on the Cyprus issue.
First: 37 Member States of the UN augured to endorse the Cyprus issue and vote in favour of the Greek proposal, even if the US abstained.
Second: Although initial neutrality was decided by the US, they ended up voting down the Greek proposal. Third: On contrary of their promises the US tried to affect other Member States. Four: Although the US said that they will keep their decision private they published Mr. Dulls telegraph on all newspapers regarding the voting down of the Greek proposal.
On the other hand the British ambassador Sir Charles visited the Greek Secretary of State Mr. Stefanopoulos and stated his disappointment on what the Greek newspapers are reporting for the British Government. Mr. Stefanopoulos stated that the Freedom of Press is there and cannot be violated. Although, diplomatic circles of Athens notice the indignation of the Press towards the British because of their attitude on the Cyprus issue.
