Rock-hard nation: building a homogenous ethnic community and the politics of unanimity

Abstract

The article is based upon a critique of Alithia newspaper's article language towards Turkish Cypriots. According to the article, Alithia newspaper argues that since Greek Cypriots are majority, they have the power to make Turkish Cypriots living in poverty, however they are not doing it. Instead of calling Turkish Cypriots as stupid, who celebrated the delegation's arrival to Cyprus from USA, the article claim that it is Greek Cypriots who are stupid because of their support of Enosis, uniting the island with Greece. At the end of the article, the writer is asking Greek Cypriot community to give up the idea of Enosis.
